Former U.S. Ambassador to India and President of Colorado College to be Senior Advisor to U.S.-India Business Council Board of Directors WASHINGTON, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC) has announced the appointment of Richard F. Celeste, former U.S. ambassador to India and president of Colorado College, to be senior advisor to its board of directors. The USIBC Board of Directors comprises prominent companies and individuals representing the spectrum of industries that are helping power India's impressive 9% annual growth rate. Charles "Chip" Kaye, chairman of USIBC, and co-president of the private equity firm Warburg Pincus, welcomed Ambassador Celeste as senior advisor, saying, "USIBC is honored to benefit from the deep experience of one of the finest U.S. ambassadors to India who will be advising the U.S.-India Business Council Board of Directors in matters of strategic importance. Celeste began his term as 12th president of Colorado College in July 2002. Prior to joining CC, he served as the United States ambassador to India from 1997-2001. Celeste was personally responsible for bringing President Bill Clinton to India, in the second visit by a U.S. President to India since Dwight D. Eisenhower made the trip in 1959. During his tenure as ambassador, Celeste played a significant role in furthering cooperation between the United States and India, especially in the field of science and technology. His public service experience also includes two terms as governor of Ohio, service as director of the United States Peace Corps, and one term as lieutenant governor of Ohio. Equally at ease in the private sector, Celeste was a managing partner of Celeste and Sabety Ltd., an economic development consultancy. Active in academia before arriving at CC, he was a Rhodes Scholar and Yale graduate who has taught urban economics at John Carroll University and served as a visiting fellow in public policy at Case Western University. Ambassador Celeste currently is chair of the board of trustees of the Health Effects Institute in Boston, an advisory board member of Stonebridge International, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and a lifetime National Associate of the National Academies. He is a board member of the American Council on Education (ACE), the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU), the Independent Strategic Assessment Group- Northern Command, and the Colorado Springs Downtown Partnership, and an advisory board member of the Institute of International Education (IIE). The U.S.-India Business Council is the premier business advocacy organization representing 250 of the largest U.S. companies investing in India and two dozen of India's largest global companies.
